All of Grace (Moody Classics)
Published in Paperback by Moody Publishers (December, 1984)
Author: Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Average review score:

A powerful yet simple Gospel presentation
Spurgeon's All of Grace is one of the best Gospel presentations I've ever read. He presents salvation by grace with such compassion and love that I find it difficult to see how anyone could reject his plea to call upon the Name of Christ. Although I was a Christian for some time before reading Spurgeon's work and although I already held to salvation by grace alone, I still found his work to be incredibly moving, both intellectually and emotionally. Spurgeon is truly a champion of the faith and this may be his best work.

Salvation for the lost
Upon reading the first two chapters of this book I began to think that it was merely an introduction to Christianity with a simple gospel message, but as I read further it became apparent that this book is a wonderful wellspring of encouragement and truth for any believer, regardless of their walk with the Lord. Ch. 5 is especially powerful with the Grace of Jesus Christ giving us the power over all sin through faith that God can actually give us a new heart and a new spirit. Though this is impossible of our own devices, it is entirely possible through God, and through Him alone. It brings to light that though the Gospel message is not so complicated no person can understand its importance or meaning (else Christ's work on the cross would be for naught), the Gospel goes beyond the simple lay-person preaching that is so common today which is done in the name of supposedly "reaching everyone". Such preaching does not bring the lost to God, but rather gives them a false impression of what salvation is, and can lead to a desire for Christ for selfish gain rather than a desire to repent an pursue true Holiness. I highly recommend this book on the basis of the life-changing message which it promotes, and the resulting power of God from which such a change is instigated.

Clear, easy to read, truth of God's saving Grace
To learn of the grace of God as it is in Christ Jesus, here is the book to read. Spurgeon, one of the greatest of Gospel preachers, explains the nature of Grace and the provision God has made for all mankind. Don't pass this one up, you will not be sorry.

Conversations with God: Book 2, Volume 1

book 1
this book is haven sent, ive all ways felt that god talks to everyone.and that no-one could have a relationship based on fear, and that anyone and everyone is special to god. i was soo happy to also be clairafied that there is no hell or saten, that god used as a scare tactic to force anyone to chose him.

This book told me everything I already knew in my soul.
Throught-out this entire book, I kept exclaiming," I knew that!" But it is always nice to read it from another source than my own inner source. It's nice to know that God communicates with all of us if we but listen. The information and concepts were more than insightful. A Must Read!

total absorbing and enlighting
This book does not tell you to worship god as much as you should worship yourself. It made me realize that there are many many things we have to learn about , life, ourselves and our relationship to one another

Courage & Cancer: A Breast Cancer Diary: A Journey from Cancer to Cure
Published in Paperback by Rhache Pub Ltd (June, 1996)
Author: Marilyn R. Moody
Average review score:

This was the most up-lifting book I have read in years.
Courage and Cancer was one of my all-time favorite books. The author is telling her breast cancer story in a way that everyone will enjoy reading, whether it is you that has cancer or a loved one. I recommend it very highly. You won't be disappointed.

A "Must Read" for Anyone Touched by Breast Cancer
Reading Courage & Cancer was almost like hearing my own thoughts, fears, battles, and victories echo from the pages of the book. Through the course of my own breast cancer treatment, I found that the two most helpful strategies were talking about it, and doing things to make me feel in control. Marilyn's way of doing those things was to write about it. And then she was generous enough to share the result with all of us. Thanks

Be prepared to laugh, to cry and to love the author!
Ok, so I'm biased....I already had done all these things before reading the book. I "met" Marilyn over 2 years ago when I joined the AOL (America On Line) cancer chat group and was sure that I couldn't know her any better by reading her book, but I was so wrong. Everyone who reads "Courage and Cancer" will know what an amazing, warm and wonderful woman she is. I am very honored and grateful to have shared my cancer recovery with Marilyn and I want to invite you all to be a part of this journey too. This is a must read for anyone who's life has been touched in some way with this devastating disease!!

Ryrie Study Bible
This is an excellent Bible with a lot of extras that provide in depth information without just being filler. My only complaint is that there's not more room for notes.

Excellent resource!
In the short time since my purchase of this Bible, it has become my primary carry and reading Bible.

First, the explanations are quite thorough and researched. The introduction to each book of the Bible is quite useful for setting the stage for understanding the material to follow. Timelines are also included to help place Biblical events in perspective.

The overall quality of construction of this Bible is tip notch. I feel that even with heavy use, this Bible will be around for many years.

Ryrie Study Bible
I would like to highly recommend this Bible for anyone who is interested in studying God's word. In all my years of Bible study and preaching God's word the Ryrie Study Bible is the best study Bible I have found. I have recommended this Bible to many people and they all have enjoyed it also. It will help you to understand the Bible. It has a very detailed section in the back on Doctrines of the Bible, it also has detailed maps and outlines of the chapters. If you are interested in studying God's word this is the Bible for you.

Living in the Real Church: A Fresh Look at How Christians Treat One Another
Published in Paperback by College Press Publishing Company, Inc. (February, 1998)
Author: Randy Moody
Average review score:

Your Church needs to get Moody
Outstanding! Randy Moody has bottled up the complete Holy Spirit guide for Church growth. This book shines light on many principles we take for granted. Belonging to one another, encouraging one another (one of my favorites) and bearing one another's burdens to name a few. It sounds simple, but Randy's fresh presentation and biblical insight will blow you away and change the lives of the members in your congregation TODAY. Every Elder, Deacon, Minister and Indian Chief should have it. Don't sleep on this one.

Thank You, Randy Moody!
I have completely enjoyed the funny, uplifting and "so close to home" connections with the scriptures. It has been a wonderful experience for me to redirect my "personal" views and look at how I really should be responding to and praying for my church family. I can't wait to start reading it again. It will stay near my bible for those quick pick-me-ups, and little nudges for quite some time. Thank you, again.

This is THE BOOK for learning how to be a loving church.
If you want your church to be a loving, "real" church, GET THIS BOOK. Randy is on his way to being the next MAX LUCADO.

Mary Emma & Company
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nebraska Pr (March, 1994)
Authors: Ralph Moody and Tran Mawicke
Average review score:

this is an awsome book
This book is one of Ralph's great. The Moody Family goes through lot's off hardships after leaving Colorado.

Excellent book for the whole family, Mr. Moody's and yours!
As a forth grader in Colorado our teacher read the first two books in Ralph Moody's series to our class. Now, almost 30 years later I'm reading the whole series to my family, we love them. Even our 3 year old asks me to read them at bed time.

Mr. Moody's descriptions and the story of his life are more than touching and heartwarming, they are important lessions in morality, life and love. You cannot help but fall in love with young Ralph, his independant mother, and all the rest of her children.

You will laugh and cry as this young cowboy and his family make a new home in Boston. Starting with almost nothing, through hard work the whole family pitches in to make their own way. Rich with history, this book is about life, both the good parts, as well as the bad and how one young man, lived it (mistakes and all).

Even if you don't think you like reading, try these books. They will change your mind.

The saga of the fatherless Moody clan in Massachusetts
Another inspiring account of the Moody fanily. This time the scene is Massachusetts. The earlier books were set in the American West. Mary Emma is the mother of the clan. She is determined that her family will make its own way in life. She gets a job in a sweatshop to learn how to do fancy laundering. Ralph works at a store in his spare time. Almost all of the children do something to help earn a living. At school Ralph gets in trouble for things that wouldn't have mattered in Colorado. The younger children are seen more in this book than they were previously. Grace is now a young lady who is tempted to put on airs. The whole family's work ethic stands out as refreshing compared to many young folks of today. Their grit and determination are to be admired. I recommend the reading of this book by any one of any age.

Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (April, 2000)
Author: Fred S. Guthery

A valuable asset to quail hunters and managers
The book covers a variety of topics relating to bobwhites. Dr. Guthery does an excellent job of showing that many of the myths proposed about bobwhites are not backed up by any facts. The writing is not at a technical level, so the book is easily read and understood by a variety of audiences. A must for any quail enthusiest!

A must read for everyone interested in quail!
Wildlife managers, landowners, hunters and anyone else interested in ensuring bobwhites thrive on their property will find Dr. Fred Guthery's newest book, On Bobwhites, an invaluable resource.

The man known as "Mr. Bobwhite" has all the bases covered in his latest publishing endeavor. On Bobwhites provides a wealth of information in a single volume. If you could only have one book on the bobwhite quail, this should be that book. It is extremely well organized into four sections containing 55 short chapters, making it easy to check the table of contents and find reference to most any question on quail.

Most complete reference book on bobwhites! Period.

Excellent Study Help
This is probably one of the more comprehensive study bibles that I have used. It is very in depth without being too distracting with comments. It is very well organized and has very good maps, charts and other biblical aids. The section on church history is very informative, as are the explanations of different church doctrines. The margins are set up so that anyone could jot notes along with the text for personal study. A very useful bible for any Christian.

What Ever Happened to the American Dream
Published in Audio Cassette by Moody Publishers (July, 1993)
Authors: Larry Burkett and Moody Press
Average review score:

You can't believe everything you see and hear, now, can you?
Burkett brings to light the full repertoire of the liberal spin doctors in one concise volume. The terrifying thing in this country is the way most people believe what they are told by the government and what they hear on the news without ever stopping to ask themselves, does this really make sense? After you read this book, you'll never take anything for granted without considering what someone has to gain by convincing you. A must read for any modern day patriot.

Outstanding perspective on the decline of rights in America
I was both pleased and angered by this book. Larry presented his facts in a well written, no nonsense fashion. He provided all sources for the information he used. It gave me an entirely new outlook on how government intervention in every aspect of our lives has hastened the erosion of our basic "rights" as free Americans. I have read it three times and it continues to infuriate me.

Highly recommended.

Learn the WHOLE truth about many important topics
This book opened my eyes to the deceptions that are being feed to each of us today. Larry Burkett exposes the EPA for who they are and gives evidence that proves the hole in the ozone layer scare is not to be believed. You will be outraged at the injustices people are sujected to by a government that is much too big and too busy tending to matters that were never meant to be handled by our law makers. Every Christian and/or person who wishes to be exposed to another version of the stories we here every day should read this book because it will reveal how important it is that we not believe something to be true because the media says it is or some government agency says it is. My way of thinking has been forever changed by reading this book.

Will Work for Food or: A Memoir from the Roadside
Published in Hardcover by Red Wheel/Weiser (May, 2003)
Author: Bruce Moody
Average review score:

the dharma rings twice
The devotion to detail, the honesty, the dignity, the humanity, the willingness to put a personal philosophy to the test-all these qualities come up roses in this book.

On both levels, the level of person and the level of writer, the author seized the authentic moment of his reality and recognized the power that flows from his being able to totally accept and acknowledge himself, where he's at, and once able to do that with surprise, openness, a lack of bitterness, and an absorption in the moment, he's on your way.

Amazing Honesty
This is a difficult book for me to review. I want to like it for the graceful form of the paragraphs, elegant structure of the sentences and impeccable choice of words, and I like it very much. It does get tiresome reading about the tedium of standing for long periods of time holding a sign. Yes, that must be tiresome. But what is impressive is the author's honesty. He lays bare his fears and his self-justifying inner dialog, allowing me to judge him. Then I must question why I am judging him. He's just like me!

It is fascinating learning of the relationships that develop between the author and the people he comes into contact with in his struggle for survival. When I had decided he knows nothing of compassion, he writes of his loving care for his sister and I get to see I misjudged.

I don't always like this guy, but then I don't always like myself. I learned to appreciate being manipulated into seeing my weaknesses and learning to be grateful for them. This book changed me.

Eye-opening, profoundly moving
Who are these people who beg by the side of the road? What has driven them to so desperate a measure as panhandling? How much money do they collect? Where do they go and how do they live when they are not on the streetcorners? While Bruce Moody's book cannot speak for all street beggars, it does provide a thoughtful and penetrating glimpse into the hidden world of the down and out. In reading this account, one must perforce give up the well-worn cliches and stereotypes about those inhabiting this netherworld. Moody's tale is one of raw adversity, yes, but also one of redemption. The kindness of strangers he encounted in one year is, I daresay, more than most of us will experience in a lifetime. "Will Work For Food or $" shines as a bright beacon of hope through the darkness of despair.
